Reel Quickies: ‘Tower Heist’ (2011)

The Reel Deel - Tower Heist Poster

Here’s the trailer for TOWER HEIST,  a comedic spin on the OCEAN’S ELEVEN-style ensemble heist tale, starring Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, Matthew Broderick, Casey Affleck and Gabourey Sidibe. The film looks funny as hell and I love the idea of seeing Stiller and Murphy work together. I’ve been following this project since the screenplay was sold, so it’s cool to see it come to fruition. Already, though, the film has created a micro-controversy, with a handful griping about Gabourey being the only Black woman in the film and the way she’s made to look against the other white actresses in the film, but I’ll touch on that more in another post.

For now, enjoy the trailer. And share your thoughts.

    Well Kev,
I have to admit this movie seems to be interesting, but have you notice lately the amount of robbery movies being made?
I too am not feeling the way Gabourey is being made to look in this movie. Also Eddie Murphy’s makeup seems to be a little too dark…lol!
Overall, the cast seems to be powerful, the movie has laugh power and I think it will do great. I look forward to hearing more about this as it gets close to premier time.

Good point about the amount of robbery movies lately. I’m thinking it has something to do with the state of the economy. I mean, look at TOWER HEIST. The lowly maintenance workers are banding together to take down a big-money guy who’s bilked them out of their savings. Sounds like the perfect wish fulfillment movie for those who’ve seen their finances suffer while the rich get richer.

Wish I had thought of it!
